TITLE: Digital Content Specialist 
LOCATION: Chicago, IL with a hybrid work environment that includes required days in the office each week
HOURS PER WEEK: Full time (40 hours/week)
REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Digital Campaigns

Position Summary
The Digital Content Specialist leads the execution of a comprehensive social media and digital content strategy that activates people around ELPC’s work, priority issues, major reports and policy papers, experts, online fundraising, and advocacy campaigns. The ideal candidate is a skilled storyteller with an advocacy mindset who excels at translating complex policy into compelling, audience-centered content across social media platforms. 

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Digital Storytelling
  • Create compelling, platform-native content including short-form videos, graphics, carousels, and multimedia assets.
  • Translate complex topics, organizational priorities, and industry insights into engaging and accessible content for social first audiences.
  • Produce real-time and rapid response content that connects timely trends, news, and cultural conversations to organizational objectives.
  • Ensure all content maintains a consistent brand voice, messaging framework, and visual identity.
Social Media Channel Management
  • Develop and execute an integrated social media strategy across key social platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, and emerging channels.
  • Lead day-to-day community production across all social channels. 
  • Execute paid social campaigns to support awareness, engagement, lead generation, and growth objectives.
  • Conduct social listening to uncover emerging conversations and identify opportunities to expand audience reach and strengthen brand awareness.
  • Stay informed on digital trends, platform updates, and emerging best practices to contribute to a continuously evolving content strategy. 
Analytics & Performance Optimization
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators related to audience growth, engagement, reach, impressions, conversions, and campaign performance.
  • Analyze content and campaign results across platforms and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Leverage analytics tools, social listening platforms, and industry benchmarks to continuously improve content effectiveness.
  • Test and optimize content formats, posting cadence, creative approaches, and audience targeting strategies.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in social media management, digital content production, marketing or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing social media strategies that increase engagement, audience growth, and brand visibility.
  • Experience creating short-form video, social graphics, and multimedia content for digital platforms.
  • Expertise using social media management and analytics tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, and platform-native analytics.
  • Experience analyzing data and successfully translating insights into content and campaign recommendations.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships and coordinate well across different departments, locations, seniority levels and work styles.
  • Proactive mindset to be able to plan both for the immediate and short term, combined with the resilience to execute in a highly deadline driven environment
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience working in environmental, advocacy, nonprofit, public policy, legal, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Experience supporting fundraising and donor communications.
  • Knowledge of Midwest environmental, climate, clean energy, conservation, or transportation issues.
Salary Range
For candidates who meet all the above qualifications, ELPC offers an attractive salary and benefits package, competitive to leading national environmental non-profits. Depending on experience, salary ranges from $70,000-$73,000.
